Inspired by her working class upbringing in Glasgow, to which she attributes her work ethic and core values, Maggie continues working to improve the lives of other more vulnerable children, young people and adults. Voluntary work for the street homeless, led into a career in social work and extensive experience of working with children and young people, vulnerable adults, youth justice and individuals with substance misuse issues. Maggie later became a registered specialised foster carer and has been Vice Chair to an Association of Foster Carers, sat on a Corporate Parenting Board for local government and was a member of the Board of Governors for a local authority run pupil referral unit.
Her long-held dream of creating a local children’s home for local children came to fruition in 2012 when she co-founded her first home in an Inner London Borough. Maggie had been instrumental in scaling this into a group of children’s homes and building a passionate team of people who consistently delivered excellent care and achieved ‘outstanding’ and ‘good’ Ofsted gradings. Working in partnership with Chris, the company was successfully acquired by a highly reputable national childcare provider in 2021.
Maggie’s dedication, commitment and passion to make a difference was recognised with the award of an MBE by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth for her services to children. This passion and commitment continues as she seeks to help others directly, or indirectly with her work at Purpose and her ongoing support for numerous charities.
